Volunteer Orientation Potluck

12/03/15 6:00 PM - 12/03/15 8:00 PM
Meadow Lake, SK, Canada

PACE families want to get to know volunteers and introduce them to PACE kids.  What better way than to break bread together.  We heard the input from previous volunteers who wanted some more information from the parents. No problem!!  We love to talk about kids AND we love to eat so this is the perfect event.  Bring your curiosity and don’t be afraid to ask questions.  Asking is ALWAYS the best policy. Location: TBD

PACE will be making a short presentation about who we are and what we do.  We will be asking junior high students to consider volunteering for our organization, but specifically for Friend Blend.  Friend Blend is a peer mentoring opportunity where individuals with exceptionalities are paired with students who can play a positive role for them.  These may include healthy social relations, good decision-making, and fun recreational activities.  This is the continuation of a research project that PACE participated in 2013-14 with Dr. Janet McCabe that studied the positive effects of peer mentor relationships.
  • 01/14/16 5:30 PM - 01/14/16 7:00 PM
Let the fun begin.  Join the Friend Blend Kick Off event with some exciting bowling and pizza.  Mentors are encouraged to show up at 5:00 PM for an orientation and families come at 5:30 PM.  This is a chance to meet up with mentors and get to know one another.  Both families and mentors should come with their calendars so that the next mentorship date can be set.  Mentors and families will now begin setting up their own meeting schedules.  If you need assistance, call Alicia LeHoux at Positively Parenting, 306-236-4804.

Let's get active!  Sports N Rec is an all inclusive event.  That means that every PACE family gets to invite a friend or a whole family!!!  We usually meet up and recreate in a gym, outside or even at the pool.  After breaking a sweat, we always have some  snacks and drinks to revitalize.  This is a family event (not a drop off) and a really great place to network with other parents.  Usually we have a handful of volunteers from the junior high and high school to teach and interact with the kids.  Always sure to be a good time!

Join us for our regular monthly meeting.  We always meet on the second Monday of every month, unless it is a stat holiday, then it is the third Monday.  These are the backbone of our support to families.  This is where you find out what events are coming up and also have a say in what future events we will be creating.  Start time is at 7:00 PM and begin with some networking with other families.  They are held upstairs in the Meadow Lake Hospital across from Public Health.  Childcare is often provided and the coffee is sure to be strong.  See you there.

If your ordinary track meet events don't leave you feeling pumped up and ready to take on the world, then perhaps the I CAN games are for you!  Dorintosh Central School has been hosting an amazing track and field event for students who may need extra supports to get the same kind of enjoyment out of this tradition.  Contact your child's teacher or SSST and inquire how to get them registered.   Registrations are typically due one week prior to the event.  If you'd like to speak with a family that has experience with the games or have more questions, contact Bluesette Campbell at (306) 236-6105 or Dorintosh Central School at (306)236-3313.

Here is a great way to help PACE out by volunteering for the Stampede Association Bullorama and Rodeo.  Every year PACE pools together 6-7 individuals for the Thursday-Saturday shows.  We run the doors to make sure everyone has admission stamps.  The Stampede Association pays PACE an honorarium for our services.  Sign up and get a taste of cowboy culture.  Contact Bluesette Campbell at 306-236-6105 to put your name down (and maybe a friend's?).

Darci Lang enlightens us by showing how to focus on the 90%.  PACE is sponsoring her to first speak to families over a potluck supper and give us the encouragement we need to keep doing a good job with our children, through thick and thin.  We will then open up the CHS theatre for a larger community event to spread the word that community needs our children to be complete.  How can we fire up Meadow Lake to be enthused to have community members of all shapes, sizes and abilities to participate in making it a great place to live and raise a family?  We will begin the conversation with Darci, so come join us!

Welcome to our annual event at Jonas Samson.  Every year the Jonas SCC very graciously keeps their Carnival up from the Friday and offers it to PACE so that our kids can experience the same environment, slightly modified...no crowds.  This provides a much more inviting environment for kids that find the regular event too overwhelming too enjoy.  This is an inclusive event so make sure to support your child in inviting a friend and they can bring their whole family!  This has been such a successful event for us.
