Monthly Meeting

Join us for our regular monthly meeting.  We always meet on the second Monday of every month, unless it is a stat holiday, then it is the third Monday.  These are the backbone of our support to families.  This is where you find out what events are coming up and also have a say in what future events we will be creating.  Start time is at 7:00 PM (6:00 PM Jan-Mar) and begin with some networking with other families.  They are held upstairs in the Meadow Lake Hospital across from Public Health.  Childcare will be provided upon request and the coffee is sure to be delicious.  See you there.  Special Guests: Chad Ryan, from Community Living Service Delivery and his team from North Battleford will be join us to give a presentation on what CLSD means to parents who have children with intellectual delays and Amy Leonard from Saskatchewan Association for Community Living will be here to present on programs like SAID and SDF.  Don’t know what those are??  Come find out if they are right for you and your family!

Kid’s Carnival

Welcome to our annual event at Jonas Samson.  Every year the Jonas SCC very graciously keeps their Carnival up from the Friday and offers it to PACE so that our kids can experience the same environment, slightly modified…no crowds.  This provides a much more inviting environment for kids that find the regular event too overwhelming too enjoy.  This is an inclusive event so make sure to support your child in inviting a friend and they can bring their whole family!  This has been such a successful event for us.

Self Care Retreat for Parents

This is also new and aligning with our theme for 2017-18.  We are creating an event that will focus on parents and their well-being at the Water’s Edge Eco Lodge on Greig Lake.   This can be what you make it.  All day on Saturday are sessions of yoga that you can sign up for as well as some incredible meals.  You can book the night accommodations by contacting the Water’s Edge directly (first come, first serve basis) with breakfast being included in that price.  Accommodation costs will be the responsibility of the parents but all activity costs and meals (excl. Sunday breakfast) will be covered by PACE.  PACE will also reimburse up to $100 of your childcare expenses should you incur any for your stay.

Book at the Eco Lodge by calling 306-240-7900.  Just tell them you are booking for PACE.  You can sign up for the desired yoga classes at that time or do so by the 19th.  Enjoy and do it to take care of yourself so you can take care of others in your family!

Self Care Yoga for Parents

As part of our theme for 2017-18, Self Care Yoga with Erin Martin is a great way to slow down your everyday life and breathe.  Whether you are a yoga guru or a newbie, you are welcome. PACE will be sponsoring one session a month for at least 6 months.  These sessions are held at CrossFit Meadow Lake gym right next to the movie theatre.  You can bring your own mat or one will provided for you.  Don’t for get your water bottle and flexible clothing!

If you require any assistance or need special accommodation, contact Bluesette at 306-236-6105.

Education Committee Meeting

PACE has been partners with Northwest School Division since 2014.  Our purpose:  To keep the lines of communication open between families and the school division regarding the education of their children, recognizing that the definition of inclusive education varies for each family.  It also promotes a safe learning environment for all children while increasing the awareness around the issue of disability.

In February, we will be meeting with representatives from SACL including their Education, Employment and Transition worker and the Community Inclusion Consultant.  Our hope is to create a relationship between the division and SACL exploring the idea of having a Communication Support Associate for PACE families and the division.

Mom’s Night

This month’s Mom’s Night is hosted by Bluesette Campbell.  This month we will be meeting at the Parkland Hotel’s Steak Pit.  Come have a nice meal together ($20) and relax.  We will be meeting at 5:30 and eating shortly thereafter.
